PowerSmart reduces battery drain during periods of inactivity to fractions of a micro-amp. A battery powered mouse, left unattended, can remain charged almost indefinitely. The mouse will wake when moved or clicked.

Battery replacement is a common complaint amongst wireless mice users. Since wireless mice are idle most of their life, eliminating the need for power in this state means fewer battery purchases. By addressing the number one complaint, a mouse manufacturer has an opportunity to differentiate and enhance the end user productivity.

The invention applies to battery powered mice and other human input devices. It significantly extends battery life, has a minimal impact on COGS and can be implemented within an existing form factor.
