DataLock® Basic – Host Independent Portable Storage with Self-Contained User Authentication
ClevX has developed DataLock® - the world's first portable storage device with self-contained "manipulable" mechanism for user authentication. It protects your privacy in the event the drive is lost or stolen. DataLock® can be implemented on various USB storage devices including both Flash and hard disk with 256-bit AES encryption.
DataLock® Basic integrates a self-contained user authenticated lock with portable storage to protect your privacy in the event the drive is lost or stolen. DataLock® is host and operating system independent, and functions equally well on Windows, Mac, Linux, and embedded computers.
A user defined PIN entered via an on-board input mechanism, activates a DataLock® drive and allows it to operate as a standard USB mass storage device. Equipped with a small replaceable (coin type) or rechargeable battery, PIN entry can be performed without a host connection. Status indicators or optional display provide feedback for authentication.
DataLock® represents both usability and security.
- True Host and OS Independence. Since authentication is independent of host supplied functions, it works equally well with all operating systems that support the USB Mass Storage Class: for example Windows, Mac OS, Linux, office equipment and embedded/industrial devices.
- Authentication is self contained. No special software or driver installation required. In fact, the host computer is not involved and is unaware of the authentication process. DataLock® provides complete PIN management.
- Configuration. Since the drive operates only after authentication, there is no need for extraneous partitioning. The user experiences a single partition that utilizes the entire media.
- Ease of Use. DataLock® drives are intuitive to use and emulate the verification process of debit cards and ATM machines. The user remembers a short PIN as opposed to a long and complex password.
- Immune to host-originated attacks. Since no communication channel exists between a locked drive and its host, a DataLock® device is immune to host originated attacks.
- Flexible customization for various markets, applications and form factors.
DataLock® integrates easily with Flash and HDD based storage devices with embodiments that support a multitude of input, output, and industrial designs.
